Backhouse Rossie Estate

We first heard about this venue through an enquiry – a new wedding venue on the block! Backhouse Rossie is a secret garden/barn vibe venue that is probably now up there with one of our favourite venues to shoot at. What’s awesome about this venue is the number of places you can choose to get married at, they have a secret garden with numerous spots inside, they have a massive lawn, a barn room for when it rains that has funky lampshades the whole way down the aisle – the option is endless! We also loved how you could either do it all yourself or have an awesome stylist/ wedding planner come in to help you out. Whatever you choose to do you can make this venue your own and we know every time that we shoot here, we won’t be photographing the same thing, as the gardens change throughout the year with different flowers, plus the endless amounts of places to shoot means you can have something original each time.

When we first met Cameron & Elisabeth, we knew they were our type of clients, cool, funny and so down to earth and the two of them together were just perfect. They had recently booked their wedding at another wedding venue but during the covid period, it made sense to have the wedding closer to all of their relatives which is when they found Backhouse Rossie! On the wedding day itself, Cammy & Elisabeth stayed at Balmeadowside Country Cottages & Lodges which was an awesome find! We loved how relaxed these cottages were and not that far from the venue, meaning they were the perfect spot, especially as they had hot tubs (what’s not to love?) The morning was filled with calm, the smell of coffee (a little bacon from the boy’s pad) and eagerness to get to the venue! With all family on site, it was perfect to pop up and visit and just enjoy getting ready. Cammy actually found a spot on his morning run to do awesome photographs of the boys before the day which we super appreciated, it had the most perfect view!

Moving through to the ceremony, what we really loved about this is that Elisabeth could Wynd through the garden with not one person seeing her before her entrance and coming out through the archways was just breathtaking. We loved the ceremony being placed infant of the water, during the entire ceremony you heard the trickle of water (Soz to anyone who needed the toilet mid-ceremony there was a little bit of a walk!) but it was just beautiful, it did try to spit a little bit but thankfully the weather god’s decision to be kind paid off and it stayed dry the entire day. During the drinks reception we loved how calm and relaxed it was, a few groups here, a few drinks there, a few cuddles here and then a few groups again, filled with laughter we breezed through this time period and finished on a couple of sessions around the gardens with just Cammy and Elisabeth. It was a total pleasure. What we found made a massive difference in this time period is how much time the couple had allocated for us. They started the ceremony early at 1:30 pm and speeches weren’t until 4:30 pm meaning that this time period wasn’t rushed. The last thing you want to do in this time period has only 1hr and 30 minutes – this isn’t enough time for anyone – we always recommend AT LEAST 2 hours of turn around time otherwise you won’t see your canopies, your drinks or your friends/family if you give us a group shot list over 10 (Sorry to be the burden of bad news!)

We really loved the speeches, especially Cammy’s who added in a sentimental touch of having Elisabeth’s nearest and dearest standing up and saying why they loved her, it totally added to how special the day was and even got a little cry out of her and us! It was so sweet and just really added to that time period. Following on from that we decided to steal the couple away to go around the courtyard and lawn and capture a few natural moments happening between the pair along with letting them have a little bit of fun with a pickup and exploring the grounds. This was super sweet as we managed to walk away from them when we finished up and let them have a walk back to the venue alone for someone on one time. Finishing up the night we had a ceilidh which was awesome and at the end of the evening, we didn’t want to leave. It was such a super fun day. We would love to go back to Backhouse Rossie, the staff are amazing, so kind! The venue is bright and full of life and it’s one of those magic gems, if you haven’t found your wedding venue this might be for you!
